In the cellar
Our Symmetry Meritage is created in our small lot winemaking facility, the “Artisan
Winery.” Under the direction of consulting winemaker David Ramey, we employ
state of the art techniques such as cluster pre-sorting, berry sorting, and extended
maceration. With small tanks and equipment sized for the most discriminating
vineyard selection process, this facility is truly state of the art, and represents the
Klein family commitment towards producing the finest wines possible.
In the vineyard
The 2010 vintage started with a cool and fairly wet spring that remained mostly
frost free. The late rains generated a healthy canopy, but one that required careful
management to avoid green flavors. The cool spring evolved into an exceptionally
cool summer, punctuated by a three day heat spike in August which reduced yields
in many varieties. September started out warm and continued into October, which
was just the kind weather we were waiting for. All five grape varieties seemed to be
ripe at once, and picking for Symmetry was concentrated over a two week period,
ending successfully on October 27th.
The 2010 Symmetry greets you with an opulent bouquet of blackberries, cassis and
sweet spices which unfold on the palate with layers of black fruits, dark chocolate
and spice. This mouth-filling wine is rich and silky in texture, with the structure
for several years in the cellar. It manages to be at once harmonious, concentrated
and elegant, with a lingering finish. Intended to be enjoyable on release, the 2010
Symmetry is destined for evolution in the bottle. Savor it!
