A grape particularly sensitive to the character of the soil it fnds itself in, Chasselas expresses a range of its subtle taste nuances throughout four wine areas of Vaud. Firstly, there are the east and west banks of Lake Geneva, which are divided by La Côte (between Morges and Nyon) and Lavaux (between Lausanne and Montreux). Then, located between Lake Geneva and the Valais one can find the winelands of Chablais, leaning against the foothills of the Alps. Finally, the vineyards of Bonvillars, Côtes de l’Orbe and Vully are those spread south of the Three Lake Region (Neuchâtel/Morat). The long and outstanding wine tradition of Vaud began in the 12th century with the foundation of the steep and characteristic terraced vineyards of Dézaley by the monks of Citeaux. As an integral part of the cultural history of Vaud, Chasselas is ever-present at all the occasions of social an cultural life in the region: meetings between friends, aperitifs, meals, festivals and events.
