“To drink le coup de l’étrier” means “to have a drink before leaving”. In the days when journeys were made on horseback, the rider would have a last glass to give himself the courage to put his foot in the stirrup (“l’étrier”). This century-old term – synonymous with offering a drink – is a testimony to camaraderie and an invitation to share... the Swiss way!
